Spanish rider Jose Butron of the Silver Action KTM team has really showed good speed and results in 2013. Having finished the 2012 season in 8th place in the series points, the Spaniard has now picked up his pace and is in fourth place in the points, after six rounds of the 2013 FIM World MX2 Championship. Having scored well in all the rounds apart from Valkenswaard where he could only manage 14 points due to a crash in the second moto Butron is one of the most consistent riders this season. A handy 35 point tally at the Grand Prix of Portugal and 178 points in total sees him just five points off the third place position, held by Dutchman Glenn Coldenhoff (KTM).
No doubt happy about his current position in the World MX2 Championships and a podium finish, the always smiling Butron enjoyed last weekend in Portugal.
“The weekend in Portugal was a great weekend for me,” Butron said. “So many people came to see my ride and when I was riding and jumping I heard the people and it gave me a lot of motivation.”
Despite not having a great start in the second moto Butron was still able to come through and finish the second moto in 6th place and bring himself onto the third step of the GP podium.
“The second moto I didn’t start so good, I was fourth or fifth and then I didn’t get a good run, they put water on the track and in Spain it’s always hard pack and I didn’t feel comfortable and finally I got a good position in the moto.”
As many riders who make the podium Butron wants more of the success he had in Portugal and is now looking at moving up a step next time he stands on the podium.
“I am waiting for a second place finish, because I have finished on the podium now a few times, but I am still yet to get a second place. I don’t expect to get a win with Jeffrey (Herlings) on the podium, he is too strong, but I want a second place soon.”
As for the next round in Brazil in a couple of week’s time, Butron remembers last year when he made his first ever Grand Prix podium finish, after heavy rain turned the Brazilian circuit into a muddy mess.
“I am looking forward to Brazil because I did well there last year. I hope it rains a lot in Brazil and I can be on the podium again.”
Now it will be up to the Spanish rider to continue his progress and hopefully for Spanish Motocross and his own career he can fight with Coldenhoff for that third place in the FIM World MX2 Championship points and remain on the course to a bigger, better career.
