The 2014 AMA EnduroCross Series came to a close with the season finale in Ontario, California this weekend and Factory Husqvarna’s Mike Brown finished seventh in the main event to claim sixth overall in the championship.
Brown started the weekend off strong with a good hot lap (second overall), which positioned him well going into the night program. Brown got out to a good start in his heat race, but struggled with a slight issue.
“I think the mousse had gone bad,” Brown said. “I ended up getting second out of my heat and made it to the main event.” ??Brown once again qualified for the evening Hot Laps, which allows the first- and second-place finishers of the heat races to compete for gate pick in the main event.
He then dazzled the Ontario crowd by tripling over the pool and clearing the obstacle in one daring jump, which only a handful of riders were attempting. Brown got a descent gate pick, but had a rough start in the main event after getting knocked around. ??“It hurts when I get a bad start like that,” Brown lamented. “I kept crashing a couple times after that, but it was still a good weekend. I finished seventh and took home sixth for the season. Right now I’m just really looking forward to coming in fresh next year. I know I can still go fast enough to win and I plan to come into the series next year full force.”
In the Women’s Pro event, Sandra Gomez of Spain was in good form on her Factory Husqvarna TC 125, claiming yet another podium finish?with a second place to Lexi Pechout. Gomez, who only joined the competition mid season, has since consistently been among the leading riders.
