The Italian motorcycling federation (FMI) and the international motorcycling federation (FIM) finally set the date for the 31st edition of the “Mantova Starcross”, the traditional international motocross competition which takes place all over the legendary sandy 1,650 meters of the “Città di Mantova” Circuit.
The “Mantova Starcross” is a key event for thirty years by now, an annual event where all the new off-road talents manage to compete with the greatest champions of all times of the discipline. And since the early 80s all the great riders of the past 3 decades emerged as winners in this amusing dirt-bike contest.
The 2014 edition will take place Saturday, March 15th (a week after the GP of Thailand), with free practices, qualifying races of MX1 and MX2 classes and the “Superpole”, whereas on Sunday, March 16th, the 3 traditional main events will entertain fans from all over the world.
It will be the first real comparison of the year between the big guns of motocross, on a track that as always will put a strain on the athletes’ riding skills and on the new bikes’ performance and reliability. The world championship transition to new continents bring the Mantova Starcross to its former and more consonant appointment in the middle of March, with warmer weather and long sunny day. As in the early 2000s, when the Nuvolari circuit held formidable and memorable editions, won by the axes of those days Andrea Bartolini, Pit Beirer and Michael Pichon. The formula is still unique all over the world and remains untouched: three short and highly competitive mixed-classes main events, the renowned “Airoh Cup 1-on-1” and a very intense and fascinating Saturday with open paddock, autograph meetings, free practices, the “Superpole” and two qualifying motos. The “Motoclub Tazio Nuvolari” is still defining contracts with manufacturers, teams and riders at this time of the season and it has to delineate the actual rider entry list that will light up to the traditional fan base of the Mantua facility: as always, however, the track will be filled with talent and informations will be soon available on the Internet and on specialized magazines.
