Fontanesi takes her first WMX GP win of 2017

Former multi FIM Women’s Motocross World Champion Kiara Fontanesicontinued an impeccable run of sending her Grand Prix fans home happy by claiming yet another victory on Italian soil today at the fifth round of 2017 MXGP. The WMX series negotiated the second of six events on the Grand Prix slate with the Trentino fixture at Pietramurata and under the immense Dolomite mountain range. ‘Fonta’ took her #8 Yamaha to 1st and 2nd in two exciting and unpredictable motos while brandmate Courtney Duncan was second (to front the standings) and Kawasaki’s Livia Lancelot was third. The main MXGP show around the packed, compact, slick and undulating course was owned by Tony Cairoli with Jorge Prado celebrating his first ever win at sixteen years of age in MX2. Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Clement Desalle claimed sixth overall in the premier class and in front of a crowd of almost 30,000 while Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki’s Seva Brylyakov shone with a bright run to fourth spot in the first MX2 moto.

The Grand Prix of Europe in the shallow sand of Valkenswaard in Netherlands will bring MXGP up to the sixth stop on the schedule next weekend.

Kiara Fontanesi: “I’m really happy to win here because it’s great to do it at home and because I always mange it in Italy! I could see the pace was quite good and I was 100% comfortable on the bike. I had a crash in the second moto today because the track was very flat and full of water but I was pleased with my win on Saturday. The big difference for me this year is the bike and when I came back to Yamaha I felt like I am ‘at home’ but I am really motivated for the title.”
