Livia Lancelot scores points against the men in Thailand

MX2_2014_Thailand_Livia Lancelot_06Livia Lancelot of Team 114 Kawasaki made history at Si Racha in Thailand, as she became the first woman ever to score a point against the men in the FIM MX2 World Motocross Championship.

Having been denied the chance to compete in Thailand last year, the 26 year old French girl had stayed in Asia after the opening round of the Women’s World Championship to contest the GP on a rugged track some 80 kilometres south-east of Bangkok, and she displayed great resilience in the heat to outlast many male competitors.

Although unable to match the lap times of the men, Livia chased hard to earn the respect of her male adversaries and, when a number of them withdrew from the second race, she advanced to twentieth position to historically earn a world championship point. She had finished twenty-eighth in the opening race.

Livia Lancelot: “This GP will remain forever in my mind, as I was not really expecting to score a point. I’ve raced GPs on the same programme as the men for several years, but I never saw a track so rough ! In the second moto I just wanted to finish the race, and that was enough to become the first woman to score a point in this MX2 class. I came here mainly to race and prepare the next rounds of the Women series; scoring points was not a real goal but I did it and that’s great. I will also enter the GP of Brazil, and then will focus mainly on the Women World Championship.”
