Terrific Tim Gajser takes first MX2 podium in Great Britain

Tim_Gajser_MXGP_Great_Britain_2014Emerging as a real star of the highly-competitive MX2 series, Tim Gajser added to his scoresheet and to his reputation today with two fantastic and calculated rides.

Finishing fourth in race one and third in race two, the young Slovenian tasted the champagne for the first time on the world stage, taking his first MX2 overall podium aboard the Honda Gariboldi Racing CRF250R.

“Saturday was not so good for me because I had a really bad start in the qualification race and I crashed two times so I could only finish 16th, but today was another day” he said in the official press conference.

“Actually in the races I also didn’t have a great start, but I was around tenth by turn one. Then I could make some passes and finish fourth. It was good!

“In the second race I have quite the same start, in around tenth place. I was already in fourth place and then I got stuck behind Dylan and two riders passed me. I had to do it again but I was able to come back and finish third so it was another good race.”

In a measure of the maturity Tim is finding with each and every race now, he didn’t let the delay harm his momentum and set right back to fighting through the field again: “I was trying to be smart and not thinking about anything else when I was stuck behind Dylan and just stay calm and try make the passes again.”

On a day when his talent really shone and gave the Motocross World Championship yet more cause to really sit up and pay attention, he was full of praise for his CRF250R too. “The bike is really good. It’s really nice to ride and I really enjoy when I ride Honda. We make a lot of testing during the winter and during the season and every weekend we are improving. It’s getting better and better!”

You can only think that seeing Tim and the Honda Gariboldi Racing team on the podium will become an ever more regular occurrence.
