GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac is questionable for next week’s race at Tennessee after being diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder, the result of a brutal crash Saturday at Thunder Valley.
“These type of crashes always leave me scratching my head on how or why it happened,” Tomac said on Instagram. “It’s the unexpected ones that get you.”
“I don’t know the severity of the injury yet because I’ve never had a dislocation issue in my career,” he continued. “Hoping to have a answer by the end of [Monday]. I will come back as soon, but also as safely as I can. Just a waiting game on how fast these sore/smashed muscles agree to heal up.”
According to a statement from the team, “the Asterisk medical team was able to put his shoulder back in place at the track, and Eli is otherwise just fine.” They hope that he won’t miss any races, but that determination likely won’t be made until later in the week.
The unbeaten streak, the points lead, the overall win – Tomac lost it all Saturday at Thunder Valley when he crashed while leading the second 450 Class moto at Thunder Valley by a comfortable margin and couldn’t finish the race. In the aftermath, Ryan Dungey took over the points lead after a separate crash from Ken Roczen allowed the Red Bull KTM rider to win the second moto and the overall.
