TRENTINO (Arco di Trento), 13 April 2013 – The beautiful track of Arco di Trento hosted today the MX1 and MX2 qualifying races, as well as the first race of the EMX125 European Championship. Ken De Dycker and Jordi Tixier won the qualifying races and Pauls Jonass won the first heat of the first round of the EMX125 European Championship.
MX1
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s KTM Ken De Dycker did an incredible qualifying race starting down in eighth position and finishing the heat with almost three seconds difference over second classified Clement Desalle. The Belgian felt really well on the Italian track and he is expecting a good start tomorrow in order to try to be on the podium or even win the MXGP of Trentino.
Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Clement Desalle was fourth after the first corner but in the opening lap he already managed to overtake Rui Gonçalves and after the first lap he also overtook Xavier Boog. While Desalle was riding second he was surprised by De Dycker, who moved from third to first, so the Suzuki rider dropped down to third again. However, after a couple of laps Desalle made the pass on Tommy Searle and the Belgian rode second until the chequered flag.
The third place was for Kawasaki Racing Team’s Gautier Paulin who had previously obtained the best lap time during the pre-qualifying practice. The French rider felt really well today at the Italian track, but he missed a good start at the qualifying race and he was around the eleventh position after the first corner. However, Gautier managed to get the good rhythm and the good speed to cross the finish line third right in front of Antonio Cairoli.
Home rider Antonio Cairoli was tenth in the pre-qualifying practice but he was confident for the race today. However, he also had a bad start and he had to give his best to finish fourth. By the end of the race the Italian was really close to Gautier but a stone hit on his goggles and the Italian decided to ride safe, finish the race and focus on tomorrow’s races.
CLS MX1 Kawasaki Monster Energy Pro Circuit’s Searle had a really good start and he rode second during the first two laps, but as soon as he find the opportunity he overtook Xavier Boog, who had taken the holeshot, and rode first during three laps. The British rider was then surprised by a fast Ken De Dycker who was coming from behind and Searle dropped down to second. The CLS MX2 Kawasaki Monster Energy Pro Circuit rider could not keep the second position for a long time as Desalle, Paulin and later on Cairoli were coming really fast from behind. In the end Searle finished fifth.
Arco di Trento also saw a very strong Max Nagl who had a really good jump off the gate and was fifth at the first corner, but he struggled to find his rhythm and lost some positions already in the first lap. The German rider started feeling better on his Honda machine and he succeeded in crossing the finish line sixth ahead of Xavier Boog and Kevin Strijbos. Tanel Leok was ninth and David Philippaerts rounded up the top ten followed by his compatriot Davide Guarneri.
Shaun Simpson, who obtained the best third result at the pre-qualifying race, crashed on the first lap and he could only finish twelfth. Jeremy Van Horebeek also crashed in the first lap and he damaged the handle bar of his Kawasaki. The Belgian rider entered the pitlane to have his bike fixed, but he had some pain on his ribs and he had to pull out from the race.
Steven Frossard and Evgeny Bobryshev did not take part in the qualifying heats, as they are both still struggling with their injuries. Joel Roelants crashed during the practice session and he could not take part in the qualifying race either as injured his shoulder.

MX2
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jordi Tixier admitted that he did not have a good start but he said to himself that he had to find the way to move up and reach the lead, and in fact, this is what he did. The French rider found the perfect lines to move from fourth to second and when there were only two laps to go Tixier managed to overtake Glenn Coldenhoff and won the race.
Standing Construct KTM’s Coldenhoff took the holeshot of the MX2 Qualifying race and he managed to lead the heat comfortably until Tixier came really fast from behind and the Dutch rider could not keep the first position and crossed the finish line second. Coldenhoff felt really well today on the track and he is very optimistic for tomorrow’s races.
Monster Energy Yamaha’s Dean Ferris decided not to take part in the main races of the MXGP of the Netherlands to try to be fully recovered from the injuries he suffered some weeks before. The Australian rider had some time off the bike and this morning he already had really good feelings on his Yamaha and he finished third in the pre-qualifying practice. In the qualifying race Ferris rode a consistent first half of the heat in second, but when Tixier overtook him he was not able to pass him back.
In the first corner after the start there was a big crash where Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings’ got involved, as well as Jake Nicholls. Fortunately, both riders did not get injured and while Herlings finished fourth the British rider crossed the finish line fourteenth.
