World Championship MX GPs take on a new character this weekend with a brand new purpose-built circuit in the inner arena of Germany’s famed Lausitzring. The temporary track has been designed to deliver the same exciting character as the renowned Daytona circuit.
The weekend also offers something special for Ken Roczen fans. Thanks to a cooperation between event organizers and KTM, those attending can watch the German star and current 250-class points leader racing via live satellite link on Saturday night. A giant screen will deliver races straight from the ninth round of the Lucas Oil Pro MX championship in Spring Creek, Millville Minnesota as Roczen fights to extend his narrow one-point lead.
Massive logistics
Some 15,000 cubic meters (more than 1,000 truckloads) of dirt have been transported to create the temporary 1500-meter track under the guidance of the Lausitzring technical staff, track designers and other experts. The workforce of 45 has maneuvered the colossal mountain of earth into place with an impressive lineup of earth moving equipment. The arena character of the track, built to capitalize on the existing circuit tribunes, will provide the perfect setting for the current title chases in MX1 & MX2.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing in the ascendency
The Lausitzring will also set the stage for full gas action from the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team, whose riders have again been the stand out performers in 2013. Tony Cairoli continues to dazzle in MX1 and now has an impressive 99-point lead in the championship. He is also well supported by factory teammate Ken de Dycker, currently in fourth place.
Meanwhile Dutch Wunderkind Jeffrey Herlings charges unabated towards another MX2 world title and towards his remarkable goal of trying to win every GP of the season. He has already won 12/12 with four more rounds to go and has a lead of 151 points on second placed KTM teammate Jordi Tixier.
The combination of the new style track at the Lausitzring, the title chase by Red Bull KTM riders in both MX1 and MX2, plus the opportunity to see the US Red Bull KTM team racing in Spring Creek holds the promise of an unforgettable weekend for all racing fans.
