On the weekend that was 21 April 2013 another page was added to the Women’s Motocross history books, as ten teams from eight nations gathered at the circuit of Castelnau de Levis, France, for what was the first ever Women’s Motocross of European Nations (WMXoEN).
Claiming the 2013 WMXoEN victory was team France who with riders Livia Lancelot and Justine Charroux proved to be just too good on their home soil.
Youthstream caught up with the top three finishing WMXoEN teams France, Germany and Italy to hear their thoughts on this new and unique event.
Livia Lancelot and Jusine Charroux (FRA): “We are really satisfied with our performance at the WMXoEN as we are the first ever women’s team to reach the top of the podium. What’s more is we had here, in Castelnau de Levis, a lot of our fans and followers pushing us forward. This experience we will remember forever”.
Steffi Laier and Larissa Picoto (GER): “I think it was a good opportunity for us to take part in such an event. I thought about it a few years ago, that there should be something like this also for girls, as each nation has some strong MX girls. Boys have had MXoN and MXoEN since ages, so now it is time to include us also. In 2011 I was riding the MXoEN with the boys and it was great, so now I´m very happy that we can ride here on our own. My team mate and I considered ourselves a strong team with a promising chance, but it was another good team (France) who took victory. Despite not winning, we are more than happy to stand on the second step of the podium”.
Chiara Fontanesi and Francesca Nocera (ITA): “Even though we could have performed better with fewer mistakes, we are happy that we have had the chance to ride among really good women riders. I don’t usually have the opportunity to ride with Livia Lancelot or Stephanie Laier, so it was nice for me to meet them on the track and compare the skills. From my point of view it was a good idea to involve also girl teams to an international competition such as MXoEN. Thanks!”
