Monster Energy Yamaha signed off a successful pre-season period today as Christophe Charlier confirmed his second MX2 Italian Championship title and Steven Frossard guided the 2013 YZ450FM factory bike to second place at Arco di Trento to seal the same ranking in the Elite series.

The venue close to Lake Garda will host the Italian Grand Prix on April 14th for round four of the FIM Motocross World Championship but was also the site for the final fixture of three in the short domestic competition. The tight and compact course saw an ailing Charlier rise from his sick bed to ride to second position (beating the likes of Alessandro Lupino and Jordi Tixier) and clinch his second crown after victory in 2010. Steven Frossard had recovered from illness the previous week and was able to set a decent pace in his pursuit of Antonio Cairoli to eventually finish second in the contest he had claimed in 2012 and 2011.

“It was tough for me today but I’m really happy that we could get the job done,” said Charlier. “We are in pretty good form and it’s been a decent few weeks here in Italy with the tests, races and stuff like the photoshoot. We’re set for Qatar now and it’ll be great to start the World Championship.”

Joel Roelants was closer in speed to several of his Grand Prix rivals compared to his outing at Malagrotta seven days ago and enjoyed a battle with former World Champion David Philippaerts as he raced to sixth and seventh.
Monster Energy Yamaha – including the Steve Dixon-led division of Mel Pocock, Dean Ferris and Maxime Desprey (who finished fifth overall in the Valence International in France today for his debut on the YZ250F) – will now turn all focus on Losail and the Grand Prix of Qatar for the first ever visit to the Middle East for the FIM Motocross World Championship on March 2nd.
