Friday
SX2 – Race 1:
After Arnaud Aubin took control after start just three laps later fellow countrymen Thomas Do and Yanis Irsuti were battling it out till the very last corner of the race with Irsuti making the final pass for the win at the penultimate corner before the chequered flag. Arnaud Aubin held on for third and making the podium to a French connection!
SX1 – Heat 1:
Last year’s king of Munich, American Gavin Faith, showed immediately that he feels home on Munich soil. 2013 series champ, French Greg Aranda, seemed to suit this technical track well too, working his ass off just to put himself on the tail of Faith until the chequered flag fell. Faith’s American fellow Ben Lamay finished a strong third to put all the favourites to the front.
SX1 – Heat 2:
Jason Clermont, Charles Lefrancois, Boris Maillard and 2013 SX2 German SX champ Sullivan Jaulin made heat 2 to a French championship in the front. Behind these four guys the battle was on for direct transfers to the main. American Ross Johnson “block-passed” his way directly into Friday’s main event.
SX2 – Race 2:
Race two started as the repeat of race one, but when Do and Irsuti both passed Aubin, Irsuti made a block pass on Do on the very next corner which put both French down. After that Aubin rode to an easy victory putting German local Tom Koch into second and French Theo Ropin on the lowest step of the podium. Do and Irsuti had a serious talk right after the finish line.
SX2 overall of the day (Race 1+Race 2):
1. Arnaud Aubin, 2. Yanis Irsuti, 3. Theo Ropin,…
SX1 Last Chance:
It became loud in the Olympiahalle of Munich when their own Dennis Ullrich led from start to finish. The final spot for the main took American Bobby Kiniry.
Superpole:
Due to the new race format the “Superpole” decided the starting position for the main event and not as traditionally the heat race results. One lap man against clock. In the end it was the reigning champion Greg Aranda who clocked the fastest lap on the stop watch and took the pole position for the main event. Ben Lamay followed by 0.1 sec., another 0.1sec. slower was Gavin Faith.
American Final:
To give the fastest riders a little rest between super pole and main event, there was an American final held for riders who didn’t qualify for the main event. This race was won by former multi-time main event winner Florent Richier who seemed to be off the pace all evening long. Looks like his glory days lie in the past already…
Main Event:
Time to put the cards on the table, the battle was on. Faith took the hole shot in his “living room”, while Aranda came in 5th on the first lap. Faith immediately pulled a gap of 5 seconds until Aranda worked his way up to second. Both pulled away from the rest of the pack while Jason Clermont and German Dennis Ullrich battled it out for the last step of the podium. Aranda was brilliant to watch as he closed the gap meter by meter but came up short only for two seconds on a controlling Faith by the time the chequered flag fell. Ullrich fought as a lion but simply couldn’t manage a pass on Clermont. Ben Lamay rounded out the top five.
Gavin Faith: “Everything worked out well for me,I’m super pumped for the main event victory!”
Greg Aranda: “I’m not 100% happy but this second place is good for the championship.”
Jason Clermont: “This is my first podium in the series, so I’m super happy!”
Watch out if the reigning ADAC SX champ from france Greg Aranda can make revenge on the Australian SX champ from USA Gavin Faith in tomorrow’s main event!
