It’s often said that it’s the taking part that counts, but in Hard Enduro finishing is everything.
Reaching the chequered flag is something that’s always easier said than done, especially at events like Erzberg, Romaniacs, Sea to Sky, Roof of Africa, The Tough One and Hell’s Gate. But for a rider who reaches the finish, to know that he’s taken on some of the hardest off-road motorcycle events in the world and triumphed, that’s a feeling that money simply can’t buy.
“Sometimes you ask yourself ‘why on earth do people want to do this, why am I doing this’. It’s painful, it’s torture,” comments 2012 Erzberg winner Jonny Walker. “But when you cross the finish line it’s the best feeling you’ll ever experience. Knowing that you did it, suddenly you forget about the pain, it’s an amazing feeling.”
