The 2015 Motocross season has officially began, Antonio Cairoli Gautier Paulin and Paul Jonass where the protagonists of the first round of the Internazionali d’Italia MX 2015 Sidi Series. The 125, MX1 and MX2 riders where whipped by the wind and the Sardinian rain for most of the day, but still the show was fantastic for the local crowds, that where supporting the riders for the entire day.
In MX1 Tommy Searle took the pole position, ahead of his team mate Ken De Dycker, Jeremy Van Horebeek, Evgeny Bobryshev and Antonio Cairoli. The MX1 race was incredible and trilling, with four riders that where exchanging their position for the whole moto. Max Nagl, who scored the hole-shot, was leading for the first laps, passed by Gautier Paulin, he ended in fourth place behind the French rider, Antonio Cairoli and Jeremy Van Horebeek. The Italian crowds where delighted also by the ride of David Philippaerts, the former World Champion was leading the race and battling with Cairoli and Paulin, before having an issue with his exhaust that forced him to stop in the pit lane. Davide Guarneri closes in sixteenth place after a bad crash at the start, which makes up a neck trauma.
Paul Jonass showed his speed, dominating the MX2 class, winning the race by nearly 30 seconds on his closest rival Jeremy Seewer, who finished ahead Vsevolod Brylyakov and Tim Gajser. Among Italians, Joakin Furbetta crossed the finish line in ninth place, ahead of D’Angelo, with Ivo Monticelli, still out of shape due to the long recovery, who has finished in fifteenth place.
Gianluca Facchetti was the fastest 125 rider on track in the morning, proving that is learning fast how to ride his new bike. Ivan Petrov and Filippo Zonta where second and third. Petrov wins race one, after a hard fought and spectacular race, behind him Chetnicki Gabriel was second, the Polish made a good comeback race from tenth; third Kim Savaste, in front of Lentini and Zonta. The second moto was dominated by Chetnicki that takes the lead and crossed the finish line first, ahead of Petrov and Zonta. The first step of the podium was for the Polish with equal points with second classified Petrov. Third place went to Filippo Zonta. Gianluca Facchetti, who was sixteenth in the first moto, ended seventh in the second.
The Elite race, made by the 20 top riders of MX1 and MX2, was the last of the day. The ride of Antonio Cairoli, was impressive; started with a superb hole-shot, the Sicilian was pushing hard in the first laps, riding more than three seconds faster per lap of his pursuers. After six laps the eight time World Champion had more than twenty-second gap to handle easily till the finish line. Gautier Paulin, who can be satisfied of his debut in HRC, ended second. Third place went to Tommy Searle, who had started well, but after a mistake in the third round, he had to push hard to come back. The first of the MX2 riders was Paul Jonass, that was followed throughout the race by Sacha Tonkov. A difficult day for the other Italians, with David Philippaerts forced to retire after a crash on the first lap and Davide Guarneri fifteenth, slowed by the consequences of the crash in the first heat.
Next stop Castiglione del Lago, Sunday, February the 8th on a completely different soil and if the weather allows, we will see another great show.
