As the Centennial FIM International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) gets underway in Olbia, Sardinia, competitors will have to deal with something no one was expecting – possible wet riding conditions. With dry, dusty tracks expected to be the normal going during the event, numerous thunderstorms during Sunday night ensured that dust certainly will not be a problem during day one.
Often torrential downpours during Sunday night and into Monday morning ensured that every inch of day one’s course was most definitely well watered. But the gritty, Sardinian terrain, and forecast of returned good weather, suggests that there is little to worry about. In fact, many believe the ‘natural watering’ of the course will only make things more enjoyable for the six hundred plus riders competing.
Ahead of the riders on day one lies a two-lap, two hundred kilometre plus challenge, featuring six special tests. With all tests set out in the hills surrounding Olbia, for those looking for success it will be a case of cautiously attacking the possibly slippery opening lap.
Thankfully, the sun has returned as riders depart, but exactly what lies ahead is, at this stage, something that no one is quite sure of…
