Martin Michek, one of the best current Czech riders, was the MX3 Silver medalist last year and he has recently shared with us what his plans are for next season. Martin Michek is looking forward to the beginning of the season and he is working out regularly really hard as he wants to return better than ever.
Question: how have you been preparing the 2013 season?
Martin Michek: I am training very hard for this season because I would like to fight again for the top positions of the championship. I did not ride much my bike during the winter time, I have just been working on my fitness, but I have recently travelled to Spain to join John Van Den Berk’s camp to start training on the bike.
Q: What are your expectations for 2013 season?
Michek: Obviously I want to be the best in sport and in my everyday life.
Q: Which was the most exciting round for you last year?
Michek: The worst round was in Valkenswaard, where I didn’t finish any of the races, and the best one I think was in Great Britain – the track is really nice, there were a lot of spectators and my fans were also there. I remember that it was like a huge party, it was incredible to see the MX1, MX2 and a lot of European riders during the same weekend, many classes participated in such event. For me it was one of the most unforgettable events, especially because I was on the podium which was a big improvement for me.
Q: How did you spend your winter holidays?
Michek: Before Christmas I was on holidays with my girlfriend in Dubai. Then I just had two days off for Christmas and back to training again.
Q: What did you feel after being second last season?
Michek: Second it has been my best result in MX3; when I look back and remember the first race which was a disaster for me because I did not score any points, I always think that I lost the title there. Before, I had never been on the podium, so it is difficult for me to explain my feelings, I was extreamly happy.
Q: Which was the best moment for you last season?
Michek: I think that the most important is that I could be on the podium regularly without any injuries, which is the most important thing for rider.
Q: Will you continue riding with KTM?
Michek: Yes, but I have changed team, my new team is R.S.C. BUKSA / ADOS TEAM.
Q: Are you excited about the fact that the FIM MX3 World Championship is back to the Czech Republic?
Michek: We normally have the MX1 here, so I guess it is great for the Czech fans to host two main motocross events in our country. Having Czech riders on the podium is very important for the Czech fans, but in MX1 is really hard to get on the top, even top ten.
Q: Is it hard for you to ride in your country?
Michek: Every round is hard. Pacov is close to my hometown, just 60 km, so I hope that many people come to watch me and support me. In exchange I will try to obtain a good result.
Q: Year after year you’re getting more experience, have you ever thought about moving to another level, maybe changing class?
Michek: Yeah, I had an offer to move to MX1, I was very happy, but it was too late. It’s really hard to pick the class.
Q: How was your experience at the Monster Energy FIM MXoN which took place in Lommel, Belgium?
Michek: For me Lommel was a big disaster. Honestly, I’m not in good relations with sand. I am preparing hard for riding on sand this year, because I really need it. It’s too difficult to obtain really good results there. But anyway, it’s nice to have the opportunity to be among the top three from Czech Republic and battle with best riders in the world.
Q: What do you think you need for the upcoming season to beat the current FIM MX3 World Champion, Matthias Walkner?
Michek: Everybody is your rival. Perhaps I need more luck and be better prepared.
Q: Last year you spend some time in Brazil, was it pretty memorable for you?
Michek: It was something new, an immeasurable experience, something special and unknown. We are European guys; it’s like America, like another world for us. I have to say that everything was awesome; everybody was so friendly and helpful. I was really scared before arriving there, but everything was perfect, nice people and a great boss. For sure, I would like to go back.
Q: This year there will be a round in Brazil, do you think that with your experience you will have some benefits there?
Michek: I don’t’ know. But if you want to be on the top, you must go overseas. I hope to go back to Brazil.
