The start of the 2013 season of the WMX FIM Motocross World Championship brings Chiara Fontanesi, the current World Champion, another triumph as she dominated the round in Valkenswaard as she is used to do.
It looks like she won´t find the one who will overcame her even during this year, but better not sum it up at the beginning, because in motocross, anything could happened. She knows it better than anyone else while she injured herself at the very end of the last season. Now she is full of energy and joy of riding, so we chat with her about what she expect after the first gate dropped down in the Netherlands.
Question: What season 2013 do you expect?
Kiara Fontanesi: Ciao everyone 🙂 First thing I want to say is to wish you a happy and nice season. I think that this year is gonna be same as the others and maybe even more difficult. To became the World Champion was quiet difficult but harder is to repeat it. There are many eyes staring on me and expecting the same results I achieved in the past. Instead of this fact, I’m looking forward to have fun and improve myself and hopefully my results as well. Rivals are always the same. There is not exactly the one with who I will battle. If I stand on the gate among 40 other girls, each of them could become my rival and took advantage of some consequences and be the winner instead of me. All in all I think that I´m rival for myself as well.
This season I will be racing like I have never been the World Champion, because I know that what has happened last season mustn’t be truth this year. So as the new season began I set new goals to reach…
Q: What is the most interesting thing in 2013 calendar of the WMX FIM Motocross World Championship for you?
KF: I think probably the first race in Valkenswaard, as every year the beginning are demanding but also the same for everyone.
Q: For which round of the WMX FIM Motocross World Championship you are looking forward the most?
KF: I have looked forward the first race… It was very important in terms of being fit enough to ride good on the first round, what is really important for the whole season too, as a good start of a Manche makes more than half success of the race. First round of the Championship meant the same for me.
Q: Which moments or persons you miss the most during off season?
KF: I missed all my friends… especial friends – riders and of course racing. Each race gives me always a big emotions, doesn´t matter how, well or bad, it goes.
Q: What news you would like to share with your followers and all sport fans?
KF: Sponsors relationships have been consolidated as I obtained the title. My bike and team is still the same and as Yamaha and Monster encouraged me pretty much last year our cooperation will continue.
Ciao, Kiara #8
