Successful hand surgery for Jens Getteman

Jens_Getteman_IMG_9440_2014A complete medical examination on Tuesday not only confirmed the findings of the mobile clinic in Talavera, it also shed new light on the scaphoid fracture in Jens Getteman’s right hand. After consultation with hand specialist surgeon Dr. Frédéric De Schrijver it was decided to have reconstructive surgery to Jens’ scaphoid today.

With part of the scaphoid bone completely ripped off, a piece of bone from Jens’ hip was placed in the hand to restore the scaphoid. The one-hour surgery went successful but the former Belgian MX2 champion will need to respect complete rest for 6 weeks before he can start his re-education.

“It’s way too early to have a clear plan when Getteman will return to racing,” explained 24MX Honda’s team owner Steven Lettani. “Hopefully he can get on the bike again in August but all of that is not so relevant right now. The only thing that matters is to get Jens completely healthy again and to support him in these difficult times. Of course this is a tough blow for all of us. Getteman proved that he’s a lot faster han last year, he did well in international races and has the potential to achieve strong results in MXGP.”

The Honda Europe supported 24MX Honda Racing team is currently working hard to put a replacement rider in place. We will provide you with more information as soon as possible.
