Yesteday in Brazil in front of 35,000 spectators Blackbird Racing assisted at the historic first podium of a slovenian rider in a world championship moto with the fantastic ride of youngster Tim GAJSER finishing third after a superb race!
On the deeply rutted track of Beto Carrero Tim GAJSER has shown immediately on the Saturday that he was among the fastest guys taking the second place in the Time Practice. In race one Tim was battling in the top seven and just got a problem with the mud on his googles obliging him to ride without and a little fall forced him back to 13th but he fought back to finish eleven. Race two was a different story as Tim started in third place behind leaders Coldenhoff and Ferrandis and passed second after a few laps and a mistake of the french rider and could follow the pace of the leader for most of the race. He dropped in third just when the swiss Tonus, The GP winner, catched him but the young slovenian showed a fast and solid ride on the sticky track signing the second best laptime of the race. Gajser finished 3rd in the race and 5th overall of the GP, the best result ever scored by a slovenian rider in the World Championship and the beginning of a dream.
The Japanese KEI YAMAMOTO was back racing after the little injury sustained in the last GP of Thailand and he scored once more good points by finishing 18th and 19th in the two races and showing that he is very consistent and getting better feeling every GP.
Now a gap of two weeks until the next race in Italy at Arco di Trento for the fourth round of the season.
Giacomo Gariboldi, Team Manager: “At last we have seen what Tim Gajser is able to do on a CRF250R! He has been fast and improving all winter and we expected any time a big result from him. This third place and the second best laptime of race two confirm that he is the hottest prospect in MX2 nowadays, he is only 17 and this will build up his confidence for the rest of the season. Kei has been again a fighter finishing both races in top twenty despite the long flight from Japan and the little training he did in the past two weeks due to his crash in Thailand, he is making a big experience and he will grow up all along the season.”
