Kick starting the second half of an already action packed series, the Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro World Championship heads to Mexico for round four. After a hugely successful debut SuperEnduro Grand Prix in 2014, the Arena VFG in Guadalajara will once again welcome the stars of SuperEnduro on Saturday February 21st.
Ensuring that the fourth round of the series will be one to remember for all the right reasons the Grupo Ochoa Agency – renowned for hosting prestigious golf and tennis tournaments – will take charge in organising the event with the FMM (Federation Mexicana de Motociclismo), its delegate Luis OTERO, ABC Communication and the FIM.
Guadalajara, in love with SuperEnduro…
In 2014 Alejandro OCHOA achieved his goal of bringing SuperEnduro to Mexico. A well-received event has enable OCHOA to ensure the Arena VFG comes alive with the sound of engines in 2015. The venue – built in 2009 – has already welcomed numerous fights of the mythic Mexican “Lucha Libre” whose inhabitants of this country are in love with. It has also played host to many concerts acts such as Oasis, Shakira and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Its initials “VFG” are in tribute to famous Mexican singer Vicente FERNANDEZ GOMEZ. Last year, the Arena was filled with nearly 6 000 spectators for its first running of a SEWC round. For 2015 Alejandro OCHOA and his staff aim to break those figures and fill the Arena VFG to the brim with a passionate Mexican public.”
Guadalajara, capital of Jalisco state, is the second biggest city of Mexico with nearly 1 700 000 inhabitants. Nicknamed “La Perla del Occidente”, Guadalajara is situated in the Atemajac valley next to the Chapala Lake. Considered as the Mexican “Silicon Valley”, it is the economic and cultural hub of the west of the country. Located 500 kilometres from Mexico City, Guadalajara is a haven for tourists thanks to its colonial architecture and its historical city centre that boasts numerous wonders such as its cathedral, the Degollado Theater and the Cabanas hospice. This metropolis is also the hometown of famous producer Guillermo DEL TORO, football player Javier “Chicharito” HERNANDEZ and of course musical band “The Mariachis”, who are pride of the city and famous the world over.
The Mexican fans can’t wait for the second edition of the SEWC in Guadalajara
The tension goes up a notch!
Taddy BLAZUSIAK (PL – KTM) is facing a growing challenge. Despite fierce competition from Cody WEBB (USA – KTM) and Jonny WALKER (GB – KTM), the five-time world champion still managed to record his third straight overall victory of the 2015 thanks to a victory in the last Heat in Helsinki. But the pressure is on. Hungrier than ever, WEBB and WALKER are closing in on the champ and will be aiming to knock the Pole off the top step of the podium in Guadalajara. Another rider fired up for Mexico is the 2013 and 2014 Vice-Champion David KNIGHT (GB – KTM). After a coming together with BLAZUSIAK in Finland, Taddy may well have awoken the “beast” in KNIGHT and will have to keep an eye on him. As he promised few days ago, it’s “Nothing less than a win&rdquo ; in Mexico. Alfredo GOMEZ (E – HVA) will be hoping to take advantage of this fight by surprising the Big 4 and claim his first victory in 2015. Often running up front during a heat, the Spaniard is just missing some luck to get a win or a podium. In trouble in Finland, Taylor ROBERT (USA – KTM) will be pushing hard to redeem himself in front of a crowd that will go crazy for his spectacular riding style. Kyle REDMOND (USA – Beta) and Danny MCCANNEY (GB – HVA) can both play spoilsports for the top honours. Dani GIBERT (E – Gas Gas) – who injured his shoulder in Helsinki – will try to have his say in the battle for the Top 5. Finally, be aware of the two underdogs Mario ROMAN (E – KTM) and Paul BOLTON (GB – KTM) who deserve their place in the Top 10 and now have their sights set on reaching Top 5. span>
Can TREMAINE answer to LINUSSON?
Last year, the Junior lost a bit of interest during the Latin-American tour as Giacomo REDONDI (I – Beta) was the only rider who made the trip across the Atlantic Ocean. This year, it will be different – proof of the growing importance of the championship. Indeed the two rivals Ty TREMAINE (USA – KTM) and Andreas LINUSSON (S – KTM) will be present and with only a couple of point’s between the duo – in Linusson’s favour – the tension will be at its greatest. After winning two Grand Prix and five heat wins, can LINUSSON continue his streak in Mexico? Or will TREMAINE reverse the trend? No doubt, the Junior category will have a lot of interest! Another European making the trip to Mexico is Gethin HUMPHREYS (GB – HVA) who looks to steal the third overall position. But he will have to keep an eye on the Fr anco-Mexican Didier GOIRAND (Beta) who recorded second place last year and will be the favourite of the local public!
For second ever Mexican SuperEnduro Grand Prix we should be all witness to a round where everything can happen. See you on Saturday, February 21st in the Arena VFG (Guadalajara) where the SEWC stars promise us an incredible show that’s sure to be embraced by the passionate Mexican public! “Ay Caramba!”
