Only four weeks after the second round of the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship in Barcelona, it’s the ‘Grand Finale’ at the Parc des Expositions in Tours(37 – France) on Saturday 9th March… All the star riders, teams and organisers will make you most welcome!
This is the first time that France, a great Enduro nation, has hosted a round of the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship. For this last round of the 2012/2013 season the FIMhas entrusted Tours Evenements, the Amical Moto Montlouisienne and the FFMto host and organize the Championship Final. For Tours Evenements and Amical Moto Montlouisienne it’s not their first time in the world of indoor sport. In co-operation with Alain BLANCHARD (ABC Communication) and for nearly ten years now, they have organised a Indoor International Supermoto event during the “Tours Moto Show”.
The Grand Hall of the Parc des Expositions in Tourswill host the final. This arena has a capacity of 6000 spectators for motor sport and has also hosted many concerts and shows such as “Toto”, Holiday on Ice and Johnny Hallyday just recently. The Parc des Expositionsalso organizes major exhibitions such as the “Tours Moto Show” and the Final of the SuperEnduro is an integral part of this. Tours Evenements, is also involved with Nascar races (such as the one to be held on 6th and 7th July) and various fairs and festivals.
Tours is located in the department of Indre-et-Loire and in the Region of Centre. The city twinned with Minneapolis (USA)and Parma (I) is crossed by the Loire, the longest river in France and ranks as City of Art and History. Toursis located in the beautiful area of prestigious chateaux de la Loire and is also famous for the quality of its wines and gastronomy.
The British arrive in force…
Taddy BLAZUSIAK (PL – KTM) is now 29 points ahead of his nearest challenger David KNIGHT (GB – Honda)and is not so far from claiming a 4th title in a row. The Polish rider will still have to race very well at the Parc des Expositionsto finish the season with three more victories… However, the task does not seem as easy this time for the KTM rider. “KNIGHTER” is very strong since his first win of the season at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona and will play all the cards to create a surprise for BLAZUSIAK, even if the task initially seems difficult. Placed third in the standings and after a disappointing Spanish Grand Prix, Jonny WALKER (GB – KTM)will still have a word to say. The two Britons benefit with reinforcement from their compatriot Graham JARVIS (Husaberg) who will also help challenge BLAZUSIAK. There is n o doubt that the English trio should give him a lot of trouble!
Another surprise guest is American Kyle REDMOND (KTM) who could add even more spice to the Final. We can’t forget Alfredo GOMEZ (E – Husaberg)too, who claimed his first career podium in Barcelona and is now a dangerous outsider. Teammate Joakim LJUNGGREN (S) will look to finish the season well and much better than it began. Kornel NEMETH (H – KTM)continues his meteoric rise thanks to his strength and large physical appearance and can play his own card for a podium place in Tours. For this first French Grand Prix, a great team of French riders led by Rodrig THAIN (Gas Gas), Christophe BRUAND (Sherco), Julien GAUTHIER (Sherco)and TM Racing France riders; Mathieu GAGNOUD, Pierrick RONCIN plus of course; Sebastien BOZZO (Sherco), Xavier DE SOULTRAIT (Yam)and Pierre PALLUT, all seek to honour their country at this elite International event.
Suspense for the Juniors… and the Women!
In the new Junior class, there is lots of suspense, with only 12 points separating Danny MCCANNEY (GB – Gas Gas) from his two nearest pursuers Pawel SZYMKOWSKI (PL – KTM) and Johan EDLUND (S – Husaberg). Everything is still available in this category in order to claim a first world title. Giacomo REDONDI (I – KTM), who had difficulties in Barcelona will not make any mistakes if he still believes in the title whilst the surprising Swede Magnus THOR (KTM)will once again try to find a place on the podium. French riders Jérémy CARPENTIER (HM Honda), Ludovic RAHAL (HM Honda)from Team Michel MEREL and also Adrien TARDY (TM)and Max VIAL (Yam)will make their debut in this class, so that they are ready for the future.
A Women’s race will take place for the first time at this final event and it sees a lot of contenders for victory. Will British rider Jane DANIELS (Husaberg) and star Laïa SANZ (E – Gas Gas) steal the show from the French? Marion GIMBERT (TM), Juliette BERREZ (Yam), Geraldine FOURNEL (Husaberg), Caroline DUCHENE (KTM), Valerie ROCHE (Gas Gas) and Samantha TICHET (KTM)don’t see it that way and promise their own unique show. The final answer to this new question will be provided on Saturday at Tours!
Everything is ready to make the 2013 final one of the finest events in SuperEnduro history. The Parc des Expositions has a show lined up with great support like FMX, as well as the exciting SuperEnduro racing.
