Tinus Nel’s words about Tim Gajser performance at UK GP

2014-MXGP-Arco-di-Trento_0299_Tim_GajserTinus Nel a former owner of Vangani Racing has helped in the past the riders like Grant Langston, Tyla Rattray, Tanel Leok, Ben Townley and many more to succeed in the world of motocross. Today he witnessed the great performance of former 2012 125cc Junior World Champion Tim Gajser who clinched his first podium of his career with a third place at MXGP of Great Britain. Here is what he had to say after Gajsers breakthrough performance:

Tinus Nel: “A good few years ago, I hopped in the car and scooted across to Lierop in Holland to an 85cc European race event. The reason was to see how Tim Gajser would cope with the competition in one of his first 85cc races after clinching world honours in the 65cc class.

What I saw was immensely impressive. The youngster was barely two bricks and a tickey high, and was giving away a lot in size and strength to the opposition. He was mounted on a bike that clearly was not the best it could be, with a leaking fork seal and not as powerful as that of the opposition. Yet he took to his task like a tiger, bringing the battle to far bigger, more experienced sand riders. The conditions, as one can expect at one of the toughest sand tracks in the world, were tough, but he ploughed on.

Even though the conditions got to him later in both races and he dropped backwards, the fighting spirit was there on clear display. Looking from the outside, his results did not seem amount to much, but I had seen the makings of a future top level GP rider. I phoned Shannon Terreblanche to share the findings of the day, and then proceeded to wait as the years rolled on.

As this year’s GP season started to unroll, it was clear that the young man was finding his feet in the most elite of company. He charged to a couple of race podiums, and today, at the GP of England, he clinched his first overall podium. The upward curve seems to show no sign of abating, and chances are that we will see much more to come from this young Slovenian.”
