Toni Mulec and his Le Touquet 2015

2014-Motocros-DP-Brezice_0563Extreme weather conditions, large amount of riders, tough track, high speed and more is what makes Le Touquet race so hard and dangerous.  It was my first and the toughest race this season, which I somehow finished successfully. The weather this year was better, it didn’t snow or rain at all, but the wind was so strong it blew the water from the sea to almost all of the starting gate.

I started from a worse starting point then last year, but I had luck and I did the right thing moving to the side of the front row, because on the better starting point behind the gate came to a few really bad crashes within 160 km/h speed. Start was really terrifying, the best riders took off, but the riders behind them started to fall like dominos, one after another with full speed ahead. When I looked over to the right I saw bike flying over 2 meters high in the sky. On our side as well didn’t go without the falls, a wall made of sand surprised as, but I managed to stay on the bike and move on somehow. I’ve lost quite some time there, but I was calm and focused, so I continued the race and started to gain places. After the first pit stop I started to lower my tempo and save on the fuel and goggles, I kept doing that till the end of the race. After two hours of the race something started happening with my bike, something was wrong, so I had to lower the tempo even more and hoped that the bike will take me to the finish line. Track was more and more destroyed, but that helped me to ride with less pressure on the bike and more playing around on the track, that even helped me gain some more places.  Then I looked at my watch and saw that I was in my last lap, so I was really hoping for the best, to finish the race, but only half of the lap before the finish line, my bike gave up after one jump and died, I couldn’t get it running again. So I finished the race half of the lap before the end and fell from at least 10th position to the final 24th place, which is much better then I expected.

It would be really awesome and crazy to finish the race on the 10th place or even better, but in the end I am really happy with the 24th, considering to all I’ve been through, where I started from and what my bike looked like next to others.

I couldn’t do this on my own, I had some good preparations, support and even better team, this time Darko in Branko went with me and helped me a lot, even though it was their first time on a race like this. A bit thanks goes to Akrapovi?, KTM R&D and Moto Club Lignano, for all the preparations there that made this race possible! But all of this would mean nothing without you, my fans, who gave me the best gift while you were watching and supporting me during the trainings and the race! It’s what gives me all the pleasure and the meaning to my racing! Thank you again, fans, sponsors and all of you, who helped me to compete on this prestigious race of Le Touquet!
