Unlike the elusive big foot, the TLD riders were easy to pick out in the lush, green foliage of the northwest this weekend. That is because the team was debuting TLD’s new 2014 SE Pro Team gear in black and yellow and they had bikes to match it. Cole Seely and Malcolm Stewart certainly had the coolest looking bikes and gear on the track this weekend at Washougal Motocross Park.
Malcolm had trouble getting off the gate and started his first moto effort around 15th position. He put his head down and motored towards the front, landing in 11th spot as the checkers dropped. The second moto, Stewart came out of turn one outside the top twenty and had his work cut out for him. He sliced his way through the back markers and found himself in 12th spot at the end of the second moto. His scores were good for 13th overall at Washougal.
Cole Seely was plagued with mediocre starts all weekend as well. Seely started the opening moto around 15th and fought through the roost and ruts to finish in 9th spot. The second moto didn’t treat him any better off the line and he would begin that battle from around 20th position. That made for a long, difficult battle but after 35 minutes and two laps Cole had made it to 10th and secured 9th overall on the day. Considering his starting position in both motos it was a good result.
Both riders will be heading home and no doubt focusing on starts this week. They have both proven they are capable of running near the front if they can start with the leaders. The series heads to Millville, MN next weekend where Cole and Malcolm will try to pull some holeshots out of their hats.
Jessy Nelson and Christian Craig continue to heal from injuries sustained earlier in the season. Both riders are progressing and itching to get back to racing this summer. Look for both riders to return before the season ends in southern California.
