Ty Tremaine Interview: “I had no idea what to expect…”

Ty_Tremaine_Junior_SuperEnduro_Champion_2015-04-06First US guy to be crowned in the Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro World Championship, Ty TREMAINE (USA – KTM) impressed the entire Junior Class. Some riders as Taddy BLAZUSIAK (PL – KTM) or Cody WEBB (USA – KTM) say from him that “he is the future of SuperEnduro”… So two weeks after his Junior title, we wanted to have a chat with him…

Hi Ty, as a newcomer in SuperEnduro, present yourself…
Ty TREMAINE:
“I am 19 years old and live in Gardnerville, Nevada. USA It’s a very small town in the mountains right outside of Lake Tahoe.”

Two weeks after your Junior title, did you have time to celebrate it?
T.T:
“I celebrated immediately after with my family and friends but was racing the following two weekends so I had to stay on track, but yes we definitely celebrated when we got home.”

What were you expecting when you announced that you’ll compete in the SEWC?
T.T:
“Honestly I had no idea what to expect. I knew I was going to have fierce competition so I just trained really hard because all I wanted to do is win, not only for myself but for my team as well as my country!”

What are the big differences with the AMA Endurocross for the Juniors?
T.T:
“In the AMA Endurocross series the Junior class is not its own race, it is mixed in with the pro class. So in a sense it is a championship within a championship.”

It has been a huge battle all season long with Andreas LINUSSON. Can we call it a rivalry at the end?
T.T:
“It has been a great battle! After the first few rounds I knew that he was going to be who I was battling with for the championship. I don’t think it is a rivalry I think we both wanted to win so it just made for great racing.”

You’re the first US guy to win a SuperEnduro World Championship… Do you realize that you’re making the history of this sport?
T.T:
“I had not realized this until I got home and somebody had told me. I had a great sense of pride for my country and was amazed that I had made history in the SuperEnduro series.”

In your opinion, which track was the best of the season?
T.T:
“I think the best track of the season would have to be Mexico. It was the perfect mix between technical and fast. There was a really gnarly rock section that separated the technical riders from the not so technical riders, then there were a couple big jumps and fast sections that made for some great racing.”

Your dad is always by your side on each Grand Prix. Does his presence is important for you?
T.T:
“Yes, his presence is huge for me. He has been with me almost every race I have ever done so it makes for a good sense of comfort knowing he is there. He also knows what he is looking at because he was a racer so he can tell me what I’m doing good and what I need to improve on in between practices.”

What’s your life when you’re not racing? We know you’re a great hunter…
T.T:
“Yes! My life when I’m not racing is definitely working towards becoming a better racer. But in my down time I do have a big passion for the outdoors and hunting. I killed my first deer when I was 12 years old and have been hooked ever since. I hunt just about everything and am constantly putting dinner on the table for my family which is one of the main reasons I do it. There’s not a whole lot of meet that tastes better then fresh Venison!”

Are you still studying?
T.T:
“No, after graduating high school last year I decided I was going to chase my dream and work towards becoming a professional off road racer at an elite level. I am very happy with how far I have come and I have a long way to go. I do plan on attending a few classes this fall because I want to have an education as well. I just needed a year off to see what I could do with racing and how much time I will have to manage classes and school.”

With all these trips, which has been your favourite country? And the most unexpected one?
T.T:
“I would have to say Poland was my favourite as well as my most unexpected. I loved being on the Baltic Sea and touring around the old town Gdansk. It was my first time to Europe so it definitely stood out. I also really enjoyed France. The food was really good and the country side was amazing.”

What’s your goal in the 2015 AMA Endurocross?
T.T:
“My goal in the 2015 Endurocross series is to be consistently in the top 5 and fighting for podiums. My speed is there I just need to work on my fitness and put it all together.”

You’re only 19 and you’ll have to fight with the bests next year! What are your expectations?
T.T:
“It is awesome being a young gun in the Prestige class! I got to watch all of the prestige races and saw how gnarly those guys are. I also made sure at each race to see where my lap times were compared to theirs and I was always right in there. It helps that I race all of the big guys here in the states so I expect to go over and do well. I put in the time and know I have the speed so it will just take me putting it all together to make for a good result.”
