Yamalube Star Racing Yamaha’s Cooper Webb further strengthened his grip on the 2015 AMA 250SX West Coast Championship last weekend by taking his third win from five rounds so far this season. The eighteen year old made a decent start at the Angel Stadium, Anaheim (east of Los Angeles) and passed Jessy Nelson at mid-race distance to earn his accolade on the YZ250F and continue his sterling run of form only three weeks after posting his first career victory in Phoenix for the second round of nine in the series.
Anaheim ‘3’ (on account of the third visit to the venue) was the site of Webb’s second Angel Stadium success this term and his latest spoil helped stretch his lead in the standings to eighteen points over Nelson. It was a memorable night for the Star team (who also boast 2014 AMA 250MX motocross champion Jeremy Martin in their ranks) that saw Aaron Plessinger make the podium in third place for what was a career landmark for the youngster. The YZ250F has been a protagonist in the West Coast class with Alex Martin also breaching the top three the previous week in Oakland on his Rockriver Yamaha.
“I finally got some killer starts and really wanted to win tonight. I’m happy for my team-mate and my whole Star Racing Yamalube team…to go 1-3 is a pretty cool night,” Webb said to the Supercross Live TV team. “We are doing good right now but we have to keep the ball rolling. I didn’t do so good at the first Anaheim but winning ‘2’ and ‘3’ is spectacular.”
In the AMA 450SX premier class JGR Yamaha’s Justin Barcia is currently sixth in the standings in his first season with the YZ450F.
For Webb and the rest of the YZ250F racers this coming weekend’s outing at the Petco Park in San Diego will be the last meeting until Supercross moves around the USA and starts to near the west again with the fixture at the NRG Stadium in Houston on April 11th. The Texan stop will be round seven of nine.
