Wildcard rides available for 150 European Championship

honda CRF150_13_gpgermany_2013The Honda 150 European Championship, that was recently launched in Lausitzring, Germany, is now accepting wildcard entries for the next two rounds in Bastogne, Belgium and Matterley Basin, Great Britain, where youngsters are able to race as part of the MXGP weekend on supplied CRF150R machinery.

The opening round saw Mitchell Lewis (GBR) take victory over Alberto Forato (ITA), and Filippo Grigoletto (ITA) in incredibly hot conditions at the sandy German track, where the line-up included youngsters from eight different nations. Highlights from the race can be seen by clicking here.

Focus for the Honda 150 European Championship’s organisational team, Racedays promotions, is now on the next round in Bastogne, Belgium on 17 & 18 August, where Honda is inviting wildcard entries to take on the challenge. It has also been confirmed that the top six finishers overall in the three-round championship will automatically receive a place in the series in 2014.

The ultimate prize for the championship is a ride in the EMX250 series in 2014* with Gariboldi Honda, although the main purpose of the 150 European Championship is to offer the opportunity for youngsters to showcase their talent in front of the world at a low cost, as all they need to do is arrive at the race with their riding kit and a helper mechanic.

“It was great to see a line-up of youngsters aboard fourstroke CRF150R machinery in Germany. The equal machinery they were on allowed for some great racing, and of course they were racing a Grand Prix track on a GP weekend, so the youngsters were seeing the lines created by the MX1 and MX2 riders,” said Honda Europe Off-Road Manager, Roger Harvey.

“We still have some places available in the series, so we’d like to invite wildcard riders to come and try it out. They will only need their riding gear and a helper mechanic over the course of the race weekend, so it’s a simple way of going racing. Our goal is to give youngsters a good, low-cost opportunity, which they may not have otherwise, to race in front of the Grand Prix paddock on the very best tracks with full medical cover, to further their learning as they step on the racing ladder. The feeling so far has been very positive, and there’s definitely some talent for the future in the championship,” concluded Harvey.
