World Champion Gajser out to enjoy season finale

tim_gajser_bogomir_gajser_charlotte_mxgp_2016-09-08Newly crowned MXGP World Champion Tim Gajser is relishing the chance to get back on his CRF450RW this weekend for the final round of the season at the famous Glen Helen, California, enjoying his status as rookie Champion.

The 19-year-old Slovenian, who turns 20 tomorrow, Thursday 8 September, wrapped up his rookie MXGP title last Saturday in Charlotte, so this weekend is all about GT243 enjoying himself on the track at which he clinched his MX2 crown twelve months ago.

The Glen Helen raceway is located just outside San Bernardino, two hours northeast of Los Angeles. The American back-to-back pairing brings the 2016 MXGP season to a close. Standing on the box on Sunday would bring Gajser his 16th podium from 18 races year, and the Slovenian could also bring home his first GP win on American soil.

Team partner Yoshimura will also make a special announcement on Saturday at midday local time, so stay tuned!

Tim Gajser, no.243
“I’m really looking forward to going to Glen Helen as World Champion and riding just for fun, without the championship even in the back of my mind. I enjoyed this track last year, and it’s where I won the MX2 title so I have good memories. Last Saturday it didn’t really sink in what we’d done, but during this week I’ve had so many people congratulating me, so many fans sharing images and videos. Even the morning after, when I woke up it felt more real, and I’m just so proud of everyone for everything we’ve achieved this season. Now I want to end the season with another high this weekend.”

Giacomo Gariboldi, Team Principal
“This week the feeling has just been incredible, being able to sit back and take in everything that we’ve all achieved this season with Tim’s title. It’s a milestone in the history of the team, and now we have the final round of the season to really be able to enjoy it. Of course this was a great race for us last year because of the MX2 title, but I must say it’s more relaxing this year with the title already won!”
