Xavier Boog moves up to 12th in MXGP standings

Xavier-Boog-24MX-Motocross-2014_Brazil.jpgThe third GP of the season at the popular Beto Carrero theme park in Brazil was one to forget quickly for 24MX Honda Racing. Xavier Boog -who recorded a double top ten in Thailand- finished 12th twice to move up to 12 in provisional world standings. Jens Getteman chose to sit out the GP to give his wrist additional time to heal.

In the opening moto Xavier pushed hard to come back from 27th, after a first corner crash, to finish 12th. It was a remarkable performance, nonetheless given the difficult conditions in the final stages with rain and a tricky, rutted and bumpy race track. But after an excellent 5th time in free practice and solid lap times during the race Boog’s points tally might have been a lot better.

Race two started off with a great jump from the gate. The French 24MX Honda rider powered his CRF450R to fifth going into the first corner. Although he managed to stay on two wheels this time the second start didn’t create the opportunities Boog was hoping for. Pushed wide on the exit, he found himself back in 17th position. However, the 26-year old from Colmar quickly recovered. Three laps into the race he was 11th, started to gain on Joël Roelants in 10th. With 15 minutes to go the double French MX1 champion hit the wall. Completely empty and without energy he was relegated to just finishing the race. Again Xavier came home 12th. Boog climbs one position in the MXGP World Championship where he is 12th now, only 19 points away from 7th place.

The fourth round of the FIM MX World Championship takes place in two weeks time at the scenic Arco di Trento in Italy.

Xavier Boog: “The speed was quite good this weekend… But all in all it was far below expectations. Especially because I liked the track and the atmosphere! Matiss Karro crashed in front of me in the second moto. I lost lots of time, still I could come back decently. My start in the second moto was very average. Luckily I got into a good rhythm. I was fighting for 10th when exhaustion hit me like a ton of bricks! It was not so hot as in Thailand but the air felt heavy and humid. I had difficulties breathing and couldn’t do any more than ride defensively and keep my position. I never experienced something like that before. So maybe there’s some kind of problem there. I will get my blood values checked and that should tell us more.”
