MATTERLEY BASIN (Great Britain), 25 August 2013 – Thanks to mother nature acting out, the European classes were faced with an extremely wet and technical circuit this morning as they took on the final day of the Matterley Basin MXGP Festival. Despite the less than ideal racing conditions, on this day champions were born! With still one round to go of the European EMX125 Championship, Wilvo Nestaan KTM JM Racing’s Pauls Jonass has been crowned champion, while Junior World Champion British Conrad Mewse is crowned EMX85 Champion and Dutch phenomena Raivo Dankers won the EMX65 Championship. Meanwhile the EMX250 title is still up for grabs after Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe’s Jeremy Seewer dominated the seventh round of the EMX250 in England.

EMX65
The European EMX65 youngsters had their heads, their hearts and their skills tested today as they were the first race of the packed schedule to take on the muddy clay circuit of Matterley Basin. Dutch rider and race one winner Raivo Dankers could be the next Jeffery Herlings, especially after showing the stellar performance he did today; winning by over a minute in very challenging conditions to be crowned European EMX65 Champion. Meanwhile taking second place in the mud of race two was Rene Hofer. The young Austrian Hofer rode the wheels off his little KTM 65 to finish a massive forty-eight seconds ahead of Spaniard David Braceras in third. Despite a few little crashes on the slippery off camber corners, Italian Kevin Cristino took fourth with Russian Timur Petrashin rounding out the top five.

EMX85
The second race on the schedule today was the European EMX85 class. When the gates dropped for race two, 85cc Junior World Champion Conrad Mewse wasn’t giving anyone a chance, taking the lead in the first few corners to go on and win unchallenged. Behind Mewse, Danish rider Glen Meier had a good start but made a mistake on the first lap which saw him go off the track and drop back to fourth. The youngster Meier quickly recovered to pass Gianluca Facchetti and Jorge Prado on the following lap and take home second place. Meanwhile one of the fan favourites Gianluca Facchetti, the little Italian running the familiar number 222 of his hero Antonio Cairoli, was flying. Being one of the only kids in the class to ride a Suzuki RM85, Facchetti put on a solid performance to hold off Red Bull KTM Racing’s Jorge Prado for third. Spaniard Jorge Prado rode consistent for a fourth place finish in moto two, three seconds ahead of Andrea Zanotti in fifth.

EMX125
The seventh round of the European EMX125 was extra special for Wilvo Nestaan JM Racing KTM’s Pauls Jonass. Jonass stole the holeshot from his closest rival Team MJC’s Nicolas Dercourt and went on to ride a completely flawless race to take both the overall and the championship victory here in Matterley Basin.

Meanwhile Nicolas Dercourt was second around turn one, but after hitting a slick spot on a downhill section of the track, the French rider lost the front end dropping him back to eighth. Despite having a completely bent front brake lever, the Team MJC rider recovered well making a series of tactful passes to take home second overall ahead of KTM Sarholz Racing Team’s Henry Jacobi in third. Swedish rider Alvin Ostlund begun the race in a strong second place but unfortunately couldn’t match the speed of the top three dropping him back to fourth just ahead of RB Racing’s Michael Eccles in fifth.

EMX250
The track may have dried out for the EMX250 race, but it certainly wasn’t any easier as the race took place right after the elite MX1 and MX2 boys had been out and chopped it up. Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe’s Jeremy Seewer appeared to love the challenging conditions as he immediately found his rhythm and dominated the race for his second EMX250 victory of the season. Meanwhile HM Plant KTM UK’s Steven Clarke put in a solid ride to take home his career best finish of second overall whereas Guillod Motorsports Valentin Guillod was faced with the ultimate challenge of fighting through the entire field after a high-side on lap one saw him drop well outside the top twenty. The red plate holder Guillod remarkably recovered for third. Fourth went to yesterday’s ‘Group B’ top qualifier CLS Floride’s Thomas Covington who dropped from second to fourth after a small crash with J-Tech Esta Motorsports Racing’s Thomas Olsen rounding out the top five.
