Tomorrow’s historic third round of the 2013 FIM X-Trial World Championship, when the series visits the Spanish city of Malaga for the first time, will be packed with extra spice as two young host nation riders enter the fray as wild cards. Twenty-one year old Pere Borrellas – Gas Gas will be joined by Francesc Moret – Montesa who is just ten months his senior, as this youthful Spanish pairing take on the might of the eight permanent riders.
Both of the young guns have the right pedigree to make an impact on proceedings despite their relative inexperience on this type of stage. Moret finished as runner-up in the 2012 FIM Junior Trial World Championship whilst Borrellas took a place inside the top fifteen as he made his debut in the World Pro class last season. Although neither rider has previously appeared in the FIM X-Trial World Championship, both have some experience of competing in similar events at national level. The Spanish tradition of success in this particular discipline bodes well for Borrellas and Moret as they look to start yet another exciting chapter in their emerging and respective careers.
Their first objective will be to make it through the initial qualification process that sees the ten starters reduced to just six ready for the semi-final. The final will then be played out by the best four riders on the night, whilst might prove a step too far the young duo on their World debut.
