Honda 150 European Championship heads to Britain

Track_Matterley_Basin_MXGP_16_GB_2013The Honda 150 European Championship returns for the second round of the series at the MXGP of Great Britain at Matterley Basin this weekend, and welcomes a rider from the other side of the world as its appeal and reach continues to grow.

As a full grid of 30 riders prepares to line up behind the gate for the second time, they are joined by Australian wildcard Hugh McKay who makes his debut in the series having won the opening round of the Australian Honda 150 Championship.

Dane Magnus Neilsen and Germans Kenneth Wessler and Lasse Neukater all make their bow this weekend, too, as each and every rider hold hopes of winning the event and showcasing their talent in front of the FIM Motocross World Championship contingent.

One more, series partners Fox Head Europe have also made available for the overall winner a €300 voucher to spend on Fox clothing.

Irish youngster Cailum Meira is forced to sit out having broken his clavicle during round one, while Ethan Winchester is also out through injury.

“We’ve welcomed an entry from Australian wildcard Hugh McKay as well as three new riders which shows how attractive this series as aspiring racers far and wide see the opportunity the series presents them” said Honda Europe Off-Road Manager Davy Dousselaere. “We continue to build a major platform for the talent of tomorrow to progress through the motocross ranks, nurturing their skills on the bike, attitude and work ethic. The Matterley Basin track has some big jumps and very fast sections so I’m looking forward to seeing how these boys handle it on their CRF150Rs.”

Winner of the opening round Jere Haavisto, who has become somewhat of an Internet sensation after his post-race interview with MXGP host Amy Dargan, was also in buoyant mood; “I’m prepared to do well, but I’m sure the other guys have trained hard too, so we’ll see. Some of the guys have ridden the track last year so it might be advantage for them, but usually I’m able to pick up the new tracks quite fast. It’s going to be fun! I’m also preparing hard to be interviewed in English if I do well. I’m working on my English right now, but it takes time. Hopefully I’ll be able to improve and be more relaxed when interviewed in front of big audience. It’s all part of the overall package and professionalism the series helps and encourages these young riders to develop.”
